What are you doing in Power BI?
It’s been about 18 months since our AEA workshop in the fall of 2022. How has your Power BI journey been since then? Let me know how you’re doing by hitting reply. I’d love to know about your Power BI progress!
Best,
Joe.
New on People-Friendly Power BI:
Just because we CAN do something, it doesn’t mean we SHOULD, right?
(Think about those powerpoint presentations you’ve seen where the presenter has just discovered slide animations and thus puts them *everywhere*…. ugh)
Power BI is super powerful, and can display a ton of dynamic data, but we still have to be conscious of how our dashboard viewers digest content. I include a practical real-world example here too.
Power BI has a Jurassic Park problem.
Introducing “How To Use Power BI”:
Back when I was starting to learn Power BI, I was constantly frustrated by how inaccessible the program was. It not only showed me weird jargony error messages when I didn’t do everything perfectly, and didn’t act like expected, but all the learning resources out were put together by “data” people (this is still true") and were also jargon-y and inaccessible.
It took me a looong time via trial-and-error, google searches, youtube searches, etc to figure out everything. Even when I found a learning resource or video that helped, I often had to search through a giant webpage filled with jargon or an hour-long video just to find the ONE thing I needed help with.
I often wished there was a learning resource that had focused, quick, and easy lessons about anything and everything Power BI, so I could find exactly what I needed, quickly.
There still isn’t a learning resource like this, so I’m building one.
I’m building “How To Use Power BI” to be a resource that can teach anyone (Anyone! Your mom! Your sister! Your weird cousin Frank!..) how to use Power BI, a powerful yet challenging piece of software.
It will eventually have everything you need to know (and if you can’t find something, contact me!) about Power BI. All the basic and getting started content will be totally free (forever), to help everyone get started.
The site is young and I’m building up the content still, but it’s growing fast. Subscribe to updates (again, free) while you are there and I’ll send you a weekly update about everything new on the site. Easy-peasy.
